She was predeceased by: her parents, Gordon Parnell and Ethel Parnell; her husband Melvin E. "Gene" Thompson; her siblings, Lawrence, Arthur, Everett, Bill of Bob, B. J., Leonard, Arnold Parnell and Betty Looney; and her daughter-in-law Ruthie Thompson.
She is survived by: her brother Hobert Parnell (Mary) of Bastian, VA; her children, Sandi Jones of Christiansburg, VA, Don Thompson (Pam) of Thomasville, NC, Jerry Thompson (Michelle) of Coalwood, WV and Bob Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC; her grandchildren, April Eads (Scott), Tommy Jones, Jerry Thompson, Jr. (Renae), Misty Heekin (Raleigh), Jake Thompson (Anna) and Seth Thompson; her great grandchildren, Kayla Eads, Tyler Eads, Tanner Heekin, Skylin Heekin, Cadence Heekin, Liam Heekin, Caitlan Thompson and Emma Thompson; and her great great grandchild Keoni Eads.
