It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert J. Owens of Chilhowie, Virginia, who passed away on April 5, 2025, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though Robert may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Robert touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Joseph and Carrie Lee Barlow Owens; and his siblings, Garland Owens, Patricia Arnold and Wanda Tuggle.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Powers Owens; his daughters, Sherry Owens of Columbia, SC, Karen Owens of Chilhowie, VA, Laura Sanchez of Glade Spring, VA and Robin Owens (Juan Rodriguez) of Glade Spring, VA; and his siblings, Cecil Owens of Glade Spring, VA and Mae Moorefield of Damascus, VA. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 8th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Main Street Chapel (427 E Main St, Abingdon, VA 24210). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Farris Funeral Service (427 E Main St, Abingdon, VA 24210).
