He was predeceased by: his parents, Jeremiah Patrick "Mack" McLain and Ruth Ledbetter McLain; and his sister Judith Crumpler. He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" McLain; his children, Jay McLain, Joi Fischer, Marcus McLain and Margie Kelly (Chris); and his sisters, Nancy and Karen. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
