He was predeceased by: his parents, Evelyn Dixon Thompson and John Frank Thompson; and his siblings, Mae T. Watson, Virginia T. Fanshaw and William "Bill" Thompson.

He is survived by: his son Kenneth G. Thompson of Midlothian, VA; his niece Cheryl T. Batich (Mark) of Sneedville, TN; and his nephews, Frank Fanshaw of Crewe, VA and Wyatt Watson of Chesterfield, VA..
