Haynes Oren Barger Obituary

Haynes Oren Barger, 90, of Chester, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 23, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray Oren and Mary Olivia Barger; and sister, Rosemary Newcomb.

Haynes was born in Roanoke, VA and served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. Following his service, he attended Roanoke College, before moving to Richmond to join Ford Motor Company, as a field service engineer. He enjoyed a 35-year career with Ford that would last until his retirement. In 1959, Haynes met the love of his life, Ruth, and they married on June 10, 1961. Just over a year later, they gave birth to son Mark. Tim came along two years later, and eventually, a daughter, Kristen. Haynes reveled in home projects and yard work and nearly perfected the art of coupon clipping. Making decorative holiday baskets became his annual Yuletide tradition. He enjoyed NASCAR and boxing and was fascinated by UFO reports. Raw oysters, sardines and anchovies were among his favorite foods—-affinities that perpetually puzzled the rest of the family. In explaining that he was their dad's dad, Haynes also came to be known as 'Daddy Daddy' to his grandchildren, Olivia and Michael. Haynes is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth Virginia Barger; sons, Mark Barger, Tim Barger; daughter, Kristen Barger; grandchildren, Olivia Barger and Michael Barger.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. His funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newby's Bridge Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
