He was predeceased by: his parents, Archie Leo and Janie Pugh Matthews. He is survived by: his spouse Susan Preston Matthews; his sons, Russell John Matthews (Christine) of East Rutherford, NJ and Chad Alan Matthews (Megan) of Mechanicsville; his brothers, James Gormley (Kathleen) and Charles Austin Matthews; and his brother-in-law Brian Preston (Jennifer). He is also survived by numerous nephews, niece, cousins, and friends.
