He was predeceased by: his parents, Carroll Danbrook and Azalee Livesay Commander; his wife Joyce Katherine Commander; his brother Carroll D. Commander; and his granddaughter Melissa Anne Commander.
He is survived by: his sons, Thomas M. Commander, Jr. (Sami) of Chesapeake, VA and Curtis J. Commander, Sr. (Melinda) of Chesapeake, VA; his grandsons, Curtis J. Commander, Jr. of Colombia and Danny Brunner (Brittany) of Moyock, NC; his great grandchildren, Abel, Lizzie, Callie and Faith; his niece Carol Commander of Virginia Beach, VA; his close friends, Dan and Judy Graves of Chesapeake, VA; and also, Jewell Wood of Virginia Beach, VA. and Dan Steinman.
Visitation was held on Saturday, February 8th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Oman Funeral Home & Crematory (653 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322). A graveside service was held on Sunday, February 9th 2025 at 2:30 PM at the Chesapeake Memorial Gardens (524 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322).
