In loving memory of Darrel Leon Sawyer (Chesapeake, Virginia), born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, who departed this world on February 11, 2025 at the age of 78. He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Sawyer (Barker); his parents, Lonnie Bell Sawyer and Helen Sawyer (Ashley); his sisters, R. Faye Rhodes (Sawyer) and Doris Bryant (Sawyer); and his grandson Robert Darrel Cowan.

He is survived by: his children, Jerry Sellers Jr. (Buddy), Anita Cowan, Patricia Matthews, Michael Sellers, Danny Sawyer (Jesus) and William Sawyer (Willie); and his grandchildren, Susanne (Nicholas), Heather (Benjamin), Danielle (Jake), Sarah, Philip (Sessile), Rachel (Daniel), Kayla Shalaby (Maged), Mackenzie Minnix and Riley Mullin. He is also survived by 11 great- grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 19th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Graham Funeral Home (1112 Kempsville Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23320). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 19th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, February 19th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Riverside Memorial Park (1000 E Indian River Rd, Norfolk, VA 23523).

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made on behalf of Darrel to The Humane Society.
