He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Haskins Oakes and James David Oakes; his wife Reva J'Nell Reynolds Oakes; and his siblings, Juanita Oakes Edwards and Aaron David Oakes.
He is survived by: his daughters, Patty Oakes Mace and Kathy Gail Oakes; his grandsons, Christopher "Chris" Aaron (Dawn) and William Nathaniel "Nathan" Aaron; his great grandchildren, Christian, Carrington, Cooper and Audrina; his sister Helen Oakes Holley; his sisters-in-law, Claire Reynolds and Virginia Garlick; and his grandson Chris Aaron.
