He was predeceased by: his parents, John Britton Shorter and Elsie Adkins Shorter; and his siblings, Ivelle S. Saunders, Nancy S. West, S. A. "Bud" Shorter, John B. Shorter Jr., Bobby Shorter, Jim Shorter and Tom Shorter.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Daniel Shorter; his children, Ginger Shorter Bennett (Rob) of Apex, NC, Vincent Edward Shorter and John Morris Shorter (Lisa) of Chatham; his grandchildren, Alex, Morgan and Jake; and his brother Julian Neff Shorter of Kingman, AZ. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
