He is survived by: his children, Amanda Elliott (Raymond) of Gladys, Steven A. Coates (Vicki) of Rock Hill, SC, Larry "Stuart" Coates (Jewel) of Danville and Christopher "Scott" Coates of Chatham. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
