He is survived by: his parent Mary Lucille Adams Thornton; his spouse Sandra Webster Thornton; his children, Caroline Webster Hyde of Rougemont, Sabrina Bostic of Creedmoor, Neal Washington of Carrboro and John Robert Thornton; and his brothers, Hal Thornton of Chatham and Donnie Thornton of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
