He was predeceased by: his parents, James Jackson Smith, Sr. and Jettie Jones Smith; and his siblings, Tony Smith, Coy Smith, Dennis Smith, Rex Smith, Ronnie Smith, Alice Chitwood and Grace Norman.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon Mayhew (Dickie Scruggs) of Chatham and Steve Smith (Martha) of Gretna; his sister Shirley Mahan (Charlie) of Chatham; and his grandchildren, Jason Mayhew of Chatham, Jamie Shelton (Brian) of Hurt and Andrew Smith (Beverly Barker) of Ringgold. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
