He was predeceased by: his sons, Alford McHimer and Bruce E. McHimer; and his brothers, Harold Martin and Fred Martin. He is survived by: his wife Karen Cosby Martin; his children, Valerie Randall, Doretha Mary McHimer, Macealla McHimer and James S. Martin, Jr.; his sister Lillie M. Hughes; and his sister-in-law Adron Martin. He is also survived by six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
