He was predeceased by: his parents, Bennie Staten and Jannie Boyd Staten; his wife Bessie Ann Staten; his son Bennie Staten; and his sister Nannie M. Watson.
He is survived by: his children, Joseph Staten, Jr. (Cynthia) of Chase City, VA, Henry L. Staten, Sr. (Byrd) of Concord, NC and Angie Staten-White (Pernell) of Concord, NC; his siblings, Emma Oliver of Chase City, VA and Bennie H. Staten (Thelma) of Drakes Branch, VA; his nephew Isaac Davis, Jr. (Irvin); and his close friend Delores Fairfax of Washington, DC. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, other loving relatives and caring friends.
