He was predeceased by: his wife Mother Evelena Michie; his parents, Robert J. Michie, Sr. and Gertrude Austin Michie; his stepmother Mabel Michie; his sister Virginia Michie Jones; his grandson Edward Nowell; and his son-in-law Lawrence Collier.
He is survived by: his children, Louvenia Nowell, Theresa Michie, Salina Hedgepeth (Ricky), Gwen Johnson, Robert Michie, III (Donna) and Calvin Michie (Melvina); and his brother Alvin Michie.
In recognition of his remarkable contributions to the Charlottesville community, the city proclaimed June 12, 2007, as Bishop Robert J. Michie Day.
