He was predeceased by: his parents, Nora Shaw and Jack Shaw; and his brothers, Claude Shaw and David Shaw. He is survived by: his sister Janet Shaw Perriello (James); his sister-in-law Shelby Wood; and his friend Cherry Payne.
They both supported the Virginia Nongame Wildlife Program with donations from their taxes. Over the years, Robert has randomly donated to many causes such as disaster relief for the victims of the West Virginia floods, the Oklahoma City Disaster Relief, the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, the American Cancer Society, Charlottesville Energy Share Program, Charlottesville Gas Assistance Program, Jefferson Board for the Ageing, Inc., the American Heart Association, and the United Way.
