He is survived by: his parents, Edwin Shaffrey and Eleanor Shaffrey of Hunt Valley, Maryland; his siblings, Curran of Charlottesville, Virginia, Tori of Scituate, Massachusetts, Anne of Brooklyn, Aidan of Blacksburg and Dr. Chris Shaffrey (Katie) of Durham; his wife Caroline; and also Tim Shaffrey (Julie) of Reisterstown, Maryland.. He is also survived by five dogs.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 11th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home - Charlottesville Chapel (201 1st St S, Charlottesville, VA 22902). A memorial service was held on Thursday, December 12th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church (401 Alderman Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903).
