It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gwendolyn Laverne Brooks (Charlottesville, Virginia), who passed away on March 19, 2023, at the age of 68, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward Lee "Sonny" Brooks and Larvinia Porter Brooks; her brother Herbert Tyrone Brooks, Sr.; her nephews, Herbert Tyrone Brooks Jr., Quintus Brooks and Daquayvion Hansberry; her grandparents, Mary Brooks, Charles Milton Porter Sr. and Virginia Howard Porter; and her aunts and uncles, Russell Howard, Charles M. Porter Jr., Herbert Porter, Robert A. Brooks Sr., Norman Brooks Banks, Yvonne Porter Coles, Audrey Porter Gross, Virginia Brooks Maynes and Elaine Brooks Allen.
She is survived by: her son Sherrod B. Terrell (Danielle); her grandchildren, Martavious Terrell of Stanardsville, Virginia and Malaiya Terrell of Stanardsville, Virginia; her siblings, Larry A. Brooks, Sr. (Patricia) of Schuyler, Edward L. Brooks Jr. (Joyce) and Carolyn E. Brooks of Charlottesville, Virginia; her sister-in-law Malinda Bishop Brooks; her uncles, Carl Brooks Banks of Jersey City and Edward Porter of Scottsville, Virginia; her aunt Shirley Porter of Charlottesville, Virginia; her nieces and nephews, Larry A. Brooks, Jr. of Charlottesville, Virginia, Rashad Brooks (Dawn) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Lisa Rush (Anthony) of Crozet, Nichele Brooks Hill (William) of Stanardsville, Angela Brooks of Charlottesville, Jennifer Brooks of Charlottesville, Kim Brooks (Antonio) of Charlottesville and Karen Brooks of Schuyler, Virginia; and her friend Debbie Henry.
