With heavy hearts, we announce the death of George Joseph Hartwell (Charlottesville, Virginia), who passed away on April 17, 2024 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, George Hartwell and Catherine Hartwell; and his brother James Hartwell. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Mary Hartwell (Peggy); his children, Kathleen Hershey (Kathy), Theresa Kesler (Terri), Christopher Hartwell (Kristi) and James Hartwell; his grandchildren, Seth Kesler, Kendre Burnett (Scott), Alyce Martin (Tim), Molly Donovan (Keifer), Maddie Hershey, Gabriel Hartwell, Kennedy Hartwell and Hayes Hartwell; and his great grandchildren, Brayden, Emma Burnett and Lucas Martin. He is also survived by his children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont at the following address: 675 Peter Jefferson Street, Suite 300, Charlottesville, CA 22911. Donations can also be made by phone at 434-817-6900.

“Jack was a part of my youth; he was my teenage crush and a really great athlete. Jack was a fast runner and was on the Yankee's Farm Team. Then he met Peg, the love of his life and started a family. My husband Jim and I were close friends with them and spent many vacations together. Remember the snowstorm up in the Poconos and the ladies insisting we go to church. Bad idea! We visited them wherever they moved to - Pittsburgh, Connecticut, VA. God give you peace during your grief. Love”
