He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Beverly Scott Hutter, Sr. and Frances Charlotte Forward; his siblings, Beverly Scott Hutter, Jr., Christian Sixtus Hutter, III of Lynchburg, Virginia. and Marian Stannard Stevens of Atlanta, Georgia.; his wife Hermione Walker Davis Hutter; his children, Chauncey, Jr., Emily Compton Hutter Going, Temperance Davis Hutter, John Mark Going, Karen Tweedy Hutter and Joan Elizabeth Clifford Hutter; his grandson Chauncey Forward Hutter, III; and his extended family Emily Davis Oliver (Jenny).

Chauncey donated his time and money and participated in The Albemarle Historical Society, Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest, the American Canal Society, and the Lewis and Clark Foundation, traveling on various historical expeditions including a horseback ride on the Oregon Trail.
