Catherine Shades Smith Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Catherine Shades Smith of Charlottesville, Virginia, who passed away on October 14, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Shades and Sarah Shades; and her brothers, Peter Shades (Annie), John Shades (Crissy) and Alec Shades (Ellen).
She is survived by: her husband William L. Smith of Charlottesville; her daughters, Sarah Vickery of Georgia and Heather Sylvain of North Carolina; and her grandchildren, Michelle Ferguson, Kristen Lewis, Kellie O'Donnell, William Sylvain, Ian Sylvain, Catriona Riding, Conor Sylvain and McKenzie Sylvain. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Missions through Crosslife Community Church.
