He was predeceased by: his wife Edith Hayes; and his son Gordon F. Hayes, Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Ruth Hayes of Caret, Kitty Limerick of Chester, Ruby Lee of Tappahannock, Grace Bundy of New Jersey, Kathy Hayes, Wortley Hayes, Bob Hayes of Caret, Bertha Reynolds of Tappahannock, Harold Hayes and Thomas Hayes of Caret; and his sister Bertha Seay of Fredericksburg. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
