She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Vencill and Dixie McNew Vencill; her husband Lorn Compton; her sons, Lorn David Compton and Richard Compton; and her siblings, Robert Vencill, Jr., Betty Martin and Frances Breeding.

She is survived by: her daughters, Debra Case of Bristol, VA and Cathy Hess (Donnie) of Cedar Bluff, VA; and her brothers, John Vencill (Dorothy) of Richlands, VA, Jack Vencill of Cedar Bluff, VA and Joe Vencill (Dot) of Bucyrus. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
