He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Arnold Vance and Vera Elizabeth Robinette Vance; his son Anthony Duane Vance; and his siblings, Roger Arnold Vance, Sr. and Janet Sue Vance Strouth.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley A. Baugh of Cedar Bluff, VA; his son William Perkins (Shonda) of Lebanon, VA; his brother Fred Allen Vance (Margaret) of Dillwyn, VA; and his stepsons, David Harris and Danny May. He is also survived by two grandchildren; three step grandchildren.
