He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Jonathan H. Sluss, Nannie Belle Johnson Sluss, Singleton Candler Wampler and Goldie Gibson Wampler; his brother Stephen Russell Sluss; and his siblings-in-law, Eugene Fields and Freda Sluss.
He is survived by: his wife Dr. Dorothy Justus Sluss; his son Dr. James Roger Sluss II (Amy O'Neil Sluss); his grandchildren, Madeline Rebecca and James Roger Sluss III (Jay) of Winchester, VA; his siblings, Glenda Kay Fields of Kingsport, TN, Ronald Sluss (Margie) of Nickelsville, VA and Theresa Katherine Tiller (Michael) of Bristol, TN; his nephews, Stephen (Abigail Betis Fields), Ronald Chester II (Brandi Monroe Sluss) and Benjamin (Fannie Tiller); his niece Kacy Tiller of Bristol, TN; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Jackson Eugene, Sierra, Samuel Phillip Fields of Kingsport, TN, Jacob, Kylie Sluss of Atlanta, GA, Kaleb and Sophie Tiller of Austin, TX; and his extended family, Mary Elizabeth Justus Salmons (Kevin), Ashley Plaster, Jason, Mc Kenna, Gabriel, Quinton Plaster, Amanda (Matthew), JD, Jaxxson Hunt, Sherman Timothy Justus of Charleston, SC, Lawrence Carter Justus of Hurley, VA and Debbie Hurley (Jeremy Justus) of Richlands, VA.
