She was loved and cherished by many people including: her mother Lottie Brooks Buttry; her husband Clyde Penland; her siblings, Jerald Buttry, Bob Buttry and Lois Keith; her siblings-in-law, Mary Mallonee Buttry, Victor Keith and James N. Chaffin; her grandchildren, Barry Johnson, Carla Amburgey and Chadwick Amburgey; her children, Betty Amburgey (Carl Wayne) of Castlewood, Linda Johnson (Lloyd) of Castlewood, Deborah Keith (Ernie) of Abingdon, Virginia and Tommy Penland (Debra) of Piney Flats, Tennessee; her sister Dorothy Chaffin of Blountville, Tennessee; her sister-in-law Pauline Buttry of Castlewood, Virginia; her close friends, Linda Hileman, Joan Kennedy and Donna Johnson; and also Campbell Kiser (Ella). She was also cherished by six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, Private Graveside Services and Entombment, only for the immediate family, for Allene Buttry Penland will be conducted in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia with Pastor Peggy Porter officiating.
