It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Sanford Batten of Carrollton, Virginia, who passed away on May 11, 2024, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his son-in-law Todd Oakes; his sisters, Mattie (Lee Taylor) and Hilda (Marshall Metts); his siblings-in-law, Floyd Crocker, Jimmy Winborne, Thomas Woodard, James, Sally Whitley, Charles and Theresa Woodard; his nephew Terry Metts; his cousin James Ballance; his friend Bill Littleton; and his parents, Silas Batten and Alma Ballance Batten.
He is survived by: his wife Brenda; his children, Beth Oakes and Jeff Batten (Tiffany) of Carrollton, VA; his adoptive son Scott Joyce of Newport News, VA; his sister Mary Crocker; his sisters-in-law, Norma Winborne and Patsy Woodard; his nieces and nephews, Tony Metts, Missy Mettle (John), Kathy, Donn Benson, Hillary Linhart (Kenny), Hannah Cooper, Carrie Benson, Debbie Taylor, India Winborne, Greg Winborne (Donna), Roger Whitley (Les), Malisha Bissette (Warren) and Ben Woodard (Jennifer); and his cousins, Geraldine, Andy, Wendy Woodard, Tim, Denise Ballance and Amy Walker.
In lieu of flowers, Expressions of Love may be made to your local Animal Shelter or by taking your family out for a good meal, in honor of Joe.
