Leslie Karin Coates Obituary
Leslie Karin Verbeck Coates, 65, of Callao, Virginia peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Robert Eugene Verbeck and the late Sara Gove Lester Verbeck, and she was the wife of Dewayne Lee Coates. Leslie retired from her career as a school bus driver with the King George Public School System. Born and raised in Walpole, Massachusetts; Leslie came to Virginia as a young woman and was a long-time resident of King George, Virginia before she and Dewayne moved to the Northern Neck.
Leslie loved children and found her work as a school bus driver very fulfilling. Her other passion was animals and she lovingly tended to many pets over the years. She was dedicated to caring for all of her horses, dogs, chickens and other pets. She was an avid horseback rider all her life. Leslie was a sweet soul, and we will miss her.
Left to cherish Leslie's memory are her loving husband of 32 years Dewayne; her daughters Stephanie Johnson and Kelly Goodwin (Robert); her stepdaughter Angela Washington; her stepson Dewayne Coates, (Brittnie); her grandchildren: Lelaina Fullwood, Joseph Goodwin, Alyssa Sales, Cameron Goodwin, Breonna Washington, and Colton Coates; her great-grandchildren: David Fullwood, Aslan Sales, and J.J. Goodwin. She is also survived by her brother Robert Verbeck (Pam); her sister Kristen Barsomian (Richard); her mother-in-law Mary Coates; and her faithful canine companion, Zeus. Leslie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Susan Kruger; and her father-in-law John Coates.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Leslie's life will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fletchers Chapel U.M.C., 8330 Fletchers Chapel Road, King George, VA 22485. The Reverend Barbara Lewis will officiate. The service will be followed by a brief graveside prayer, inurnment, and a light luncheon in the church hall.
