He was predeceased by: his wife Jane M. Dawson; his parents, Dewey F. Dawson and Bertie L. Dawson; and his siblings, Elwood Dawson, Lucille Dietz and Marjorie Tignor.

He is survived by: his children, Johnney Dawson (Brenda), Robert Dawson, Teresa Fairly (Keith) and Beverly Korff (Pete); his grandchildren, Crystal Higgins (Brad), Michael Dawson (Emma), Robbie Dawson (Cameron), Jackie Dawson, Jessica Fairly and Chalin Fairly (Caroline); and his great grandchildren, Cayden, Kendal, Dane and Mac.

Visitation was held on Sunday, February 2nd 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Henderson United Methodist Church (72 Henderson Dr, Callao, VA 22435). A funeral service was held on Sunday, February 2nd 2025 at 2:30 PM at the same location.
