He is survived by: his wife Virginia Louise Link Howerton; and his children, Mark Howerton (Brenda) of Clarksville, John Howerton of Nathalie, David Howerton, Timothy Howerton of Buffalo Junction, Mary Lou H. Walker of Buffalo Junction, Sarah H. Price Evans (Perry) of Boydton and Eunice H. Risland of Smyrna, GA.. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 4 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.
