With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Dorothy Avenell Thompson of Buchanan, Virginia, who passed away on February 1, 2025 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Estel Epling and Carie Epling (Rowe); her former husbands, Bobby Green and Joe Waddell; her husband Emory Thompson; and her siblings, Chester Epling, Virgil Epling, Bobby Epling, Ruth Ruby, Chloe Chaney and Betty Thacker.
She is survived by: her sons, Ricky Green (Betty) of Harman, VA and Freddy Waddell of Grundy, VA; her grandchildren, Jason Green and Shana Green; her caregiver Sherry Dotson; and her sister Lucy Lyvone Smith of Monticello, KY.. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 at 6:00 PM and on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the Grundy Funeral Home (22208 Riverside Dr, Grundy, VA 24614). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 at 7:00 PM, on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 7:00 PM and on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at the Thompson-Waddell Cemetery.
