He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Dales; his sons, Jonathon Dales of Pound and Carl Jr.; his grandchildren, Whitney Dales Johnson and Jonathan Alex Dales; his stepgrandsons, Charles Mitchum and Thomas Mitchum; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Castian Mitchum and Luna Mitchum; and his siblings, Maynard Dales of Haysi, Sonnie Dales (Michelle) of Mouthcard, Kentucky, Juanita Owens of Mt. Airy, Audrey Ratliff (Everett) of Vansant, Annette Browning of Vansant, Bonnie Fay Shoals of Vansant, Jeanette Bennet of Eagle Lake and Connie Tiller of Honaker, Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
