She was predeceased by: her parents, Phillip Elam and Matilda Fields Elam; her husband Walter Townsend; her children, Shirley-Jean, Lawrence, Cynthia Elam, Troy, Terry, Fred Townsend and Sherina Terry; and her siblings, Thomas, Carlton, Carl Elam, Rosa Pannell, Bertha Gaines and Catherine Elam. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
