He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Medford and Ivy Jane Plaugher Custer; his wife Carolyn Collins; and his brothers, Eugene "Gene" Custer and Otis Custer, Sr..

He is survived by: his children, Farrah Brockman, Tara Lupo of Harrisonburg, Alaina Custer of Mathias, WV and John Custer of Broadway; his grandchildren, Destiny, Madison, Brianna, Trinity, Devin and Jasmine; and his siblings, Mary Jane Trimble (Richard) of Linville and Jimmy Custer of Fulks Run. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
