She was predeceased by: her father William Purdue Cansler Jr.; her husband James Fugate; and her grandparents, Ballard and Lottie Lee. She is survived by: her sons, Michael Fugate and Desmond Fugate; her siblings, Kenneth Cansler (Willie), Charlotte Cansler and Denise Wagner (Lee); her aunts, Jeannie Lee and Era Lee; her uncle Frank Cansler; her nieces and nephews, Coretta Morton, Christopher, Adrienne Cansler, Bryan, Aleah Wagner and Allegera Stanton; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Aisha Morton, Makaila Wagner, Christian Wagner and Caleb Wagner; and her friends, Teresa Brown, David Hughes, Tamika Bizzell (Coco), Karen Foote and Valerie. She is also survived by cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Valerie.
