She was predeceased by: her parents, Dr. Len D. Hagaman and Louise K. Hagaman. She is survived by: her husband Ted K. Ellis; her children, Jennifer Ellis of Charlotte and Ted K. Ellis II of Birmingham, Alabama; her grandchildren, Thomas Ellis Keeter and Sara Elizabeth Keeter of Charlotte; and her siblings, Margaret Hagaman Sullivan of Knoxville and Len D. Hagaman Junior of Boone.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sara's memory to Wellmont Cancer Institute.
