He was predeceased by: his grandparents, John R., May Smith Barb, William C. and Mary Katherine Rutherford Shumaker; his parents, Don, Sr. Shumaker and Mona Barb Shumaker; and his parents-in-law, Martha Jane Lockhart Epling and Guy Epling.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Epling Shumaker; his daughter Martha Ann McGlothlin Bowman (Harold Mark Bowman); his brother Dr. William Shumaker (Beth Loudy Shumaker); his grandchildren, Jackson Reid McGlothlin Gayle, Carolina Jane Gayle, Gordon Brooks Gayle and James Wilson Gayle; his aunt Mary Jane Harkins Barb; his brother-in-law David Lewis Epling; his godchildren, Bambi Brooke Akard and David Weaver Akard, III; his extended family, Margaret and Herbert Toon; and his close friends, Von Boggs and Patsy Prater.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Et Akard Funeral Home (1912 W State St, Bristol, TN 37620). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 9th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Central Christian Church, 424 Melrose St., Bristol, TN 37620.
