He was predeceased by: his brothers, Jimmy and Bill Atwell. He is survived by: his children, Donald Atwell (Caprice) of Indialantic, FL and Christa Atwell of Kingsport, TN; his grandchildren, Abram Morton and Georgia Morton of Kingsport, TN; the mother of his children Pamela Atwell of Glade Spring, VA; his aunt Peggy Jane Garrett of Abingdon, VA; his nieces, Vicky Musick (Jeff) and Pam Atwell of Abingdon, VA; and his nephew Geoff Atwell (Lisa) of Bokeelia, FL. He is also survived by many cousins and friends.
A graveside service was held on Friday, December 6th 2024 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Knollkreg Memorial Park (556 Walden Rd NE, Abingdon, VA 24210). A celebration of life was held on Friday, December 6th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dealers Auto Auction (207 Princeton Rd, Johnson City, TN 37601).
