He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas James and Florence Bennington James; and his siblings, Lucille Dunlap, Willis and Hansford "Moose" James.

He is survived by: his children, Karen James Paluzzi, Mitzi James (Bill Stufflestreet), Laura James Malone (Bill) and Steven "Mitch" James (Cathy); his grandchildren, Keeley Yates Chinn, Alex James, Kristopher Daniel Yates and Maegan Rose Malone; and his great grandchild Jasper James. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children - Greenville, 950 W Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
