He is survived by: his wife Sheila Ann Doyle (Shields); his sons, Brandon Gregory Shields (Sorayda) of Bridgewater and Blake Matthew Shields (Kennedy Smith) of Bridgewater; his grandchildren, Judah Gregory and Olive Kimberly; his siblings, Nelson Shields (Brenda) of Summerville, SC, Carolyn (Oliver Haupfear) of Columbia, SC and Curtis Shields (Nancy) of Blacksburg, VA.; and his nephews, Chad Shields of Summerville, SC and Eric Haupfear (Sharon) of Naperville, Illinois..
