He was predeceased by: his sister Glenna Jo Duff; and his nephew Randy Wright Cofer. He is survived by: his wife Rachael West Cofer; his children, Rachel Anne Potts (Joey) of Arlington and Joseph Gordon Cofer (Karen) of Poquoson; and his grandchildren, Lauren Burns (Josh) of Newport News, Andrew Smith of Chesapeke, Kaitlyn Potts of Arlington and Brandon Cofer of Poquoson.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 A.M. They also suggest memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.

“I'm so sorry to hear of Randy 's passing. I worked with hoim for several years at Langley Research Center and am proud to have called him a friend. He was the type of scientist that worked hard on his projects - I went to Homestead AFB with him when he was underflying the Space Shuttle and measuring possible pollution from the exhaust. I remember him going to Kuwait with his team to measure the pollution from the burning oil wells set afire by Saddam Hussein. I will miss Randy. RIP”
