He was predeceased by: his father Jessie Hardy; his siblings, Howard Hardy and Lois Hardy; and his brother-in-law John "Bubba" Murphy. He is survived by: his fiancée Donna Staton; his mother Mary Hardy; his siblings, Peggy Murphy of Bracey, VA, Mary Amatrona of Batavia and Ronnie Hardy (Lehlia) of Mechanicsville, VA; his son Joseph Staton of Madison Heights, VA; and his grandson Caiden.
