He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Frederick Oertel and Velma Hayworth Oertel; his wife Joyce Oertel; his sister Janet O. Kelsheimer; and his son Scott Oertel.
He is survived by: his children, Shelly Forbes (Dusty) of Baskerville, VA and Danny Lee Oertel (Deborah) of Chesapeake, VA; his grandchildren, Whitney Oertel, Jordan Oertel, Jessica Queen (Chase) and Holly Callahan (Jarrett); his great grandchildren, Corbin, Paxton, Everrett, John and Amelia Joy; and his brother Charles Roger Oertel of Anthon, IA..
