With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Bettye Jean Sands Crutchfield (Boydton, Virginia), born in Shelby, North Carolina, who passed away on May 3, 2020 at the age of 83. She was predeceased by: her parents, Willie Frank and Hattie Belle Sands; and her husband Thomas Edward Crutchfield, Sr.. She is survived by: her children, Thomas E. Crutchfield, Jr. of Boydton, VA and Deborah C. Duncan (Roger) of Boydton, VA; her sisters, Geneva Tucker of New Jersey and Shirley Hester (Joseph) of Chase City; her sisters-in-law, Edith Simms (Alva) of Williamsburg, VA and Clara Sands of Chase City, VA; and her close friend Brenda Howerton. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.
