He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Scott (Bessie Mae Francis Gwathmey) and Bessie Mae Frances (Baylor); his siblings, William "Bill" Gwathmey, Julian Gwathmey, Mary Withers and Bessie "Ashton" Gwathmey; and his son-in-law Devin Leftwich.
He is survived by: his children, Lisa Leftwich, Scott Lewis, Vanessa Golden, Vernell Cosby (Darnell), Stacy Golden, Dianna Jones (Michael) and Velma Ming (Keynon); his grandchildren, John, Naomi, Zachary Leftwich, Brianna, Chyna and Tyreese Lewis; his great grandchildren, Kalirose Trent and Kehlani Comfort; his grandchildren, Antoine, Aaliyah Golden, Darnell Jr., Danielle Cosby, Crystal, Nakita Golden, Tikisha Robinson and Stacy Golden Jr.; his sister Jennett Parker; his caregiver Ruth Fox Duling; and his brothers, Henry Gwathmey (Vanessa) and Benford Gwathmey. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul's Baptist Church (1995 Globe Rd, Aylett, VA 23009).
