He was predeceased by: his son Robert James Gray; his parents, Raymond Gray and Annabelle Gray; and his siblings, Ray, Charles Gray and Thelma Jones.

He is survived by: his children, Michelle Chewning (David), Jennifer Fields and Damon Gray, Jr.; his grandchildren, Davy Chewning, Gracie Chewning, Brooke Fields, Brittany Fields, Bubba Fields, Robert Fields and Aubry Minor; his wife Mary Hall Gray; his siblings, George, Lionel Gray and Sue Duncan; and his great grandchild Brantley Whittaker. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
