It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Waymond D. Mitchell Sr. (Blackstone, Virginia), who passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his spouse Shirley Green Mitchell; his parent Ollie Reasor Mitchell; his grandmother Florence Franklin Reasor Dykes; his siblings, Katherine Winslow, Robert Mitchell, Ollie Hemphill, Mable Mitchell, Beatrice Davis, Christine Zander, Margaret Cary, Frances Elizabeth Mitchell, Jim Ed Mitchell, Florence Crum and Alma Sue Williams; and his grandson Jamaal Cooper.
He is survived by: his children, Lolita Cooper, Chenita Boadi and Waymond Mitchell Jr.; his brother Willie Shark; his grandchildren, Iyesis Mitchell, Michael Cooper and Brandon Cooper; his great grandchildren, Jessiah Muhammad, Naomi Cooper, Phoenix Muhammad, Milek McCoy and Kei Cooper; his goddaughter LaToya Pettiford; and his niece Vera (Ariel Williams).
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the W. E. Hawkes and Son Funeral Home (504 East St, Blackstone, VA 23824). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Spring Hill Baptist Church (403 Spring Hill, Blackstone, VA 23824).
