He was predeceased by: his spouse Shirley Green Mitchell; his parent Ollie Reasor Mitchell; his grandmother Florence Franklin Reasor Dykes; his siblings, Katherine Winslow, Robert Mitchell, Ollie Hemphill, Mable Mitchell, Beatrice Davis, Christine Zander, Margaret Cary, Frances Elizabeth Mitchell, Jim Ed Mitchell, Florence Crum and Alma Sue Williams; and his grandson Jamaal Cooper.
He is survived by: his children, Lolita Cooper, Chenita Boadi and Waymond Mitchell Jr.; his brother Willie Shark; his grandchildren, Iyesis Mitchell, Michael Cooper and Brandon Cooper; his great grandchildren, Jessiah Muhammad, Naomi Cooper, Phoenix Muhammad, Milek McCoy and Kei Cooper; his goddaughter LaToya Pettiford; and his niece Vera (Ariel Williams).
