He was predeceased by: his wife Betty A. Hoyle; his parents, Jesse D. Hoyle and Elizabeth L. Hoyle; and his siblings, Rex, Jerry Hoyle, Peggy Brugos and Sandy Ankney.

He is survived by: his children, Robert Edward Hoyle (Judy) and Catherine Hoyle Hendricks (Jamie); his grandsons, Steven E. Hendricks (Crystal), Robert J. Hoyle and Thomas W. Hoyle (Laura); his great grandchildren, Carolyn Grace Hendricks, Robert, James, Johnnie, Martin, Lizzie, Charlotte Anne and Jackson Hoyle; his caregiver Martha K. Stout; and his pet Suzie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Blackstone Chapel of Joseph McMillian Funeral Homes (1826 Cox Rd, Blackstone, VA 23824). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Dinwiddie Baptist Church (14818 Wilkinson Rd, Dewitt, VA 23840). A burial was held on Tuesday, April 1st 2025 at the Asbury Memorial Cemetery (20600 Boydton Plank Rd, McKenney, VA 23872).
