He was predeceased by: his parents, David Dowdy and Mary Tallant Dowdy; his wife Ellen Dove Dowdy; and his sister Elizabeth Dowdy. He is survived by: his daughters, Pamela Thornton, Teresa Dowdy and Melissa (Michael Cox); his siblings, David Dowdy, Charlotte (Pete Broyles), Ann (Gilbert Cumbee) and Sue Entsminger; his grandchildren, Sierra, Cody Sowers, Ryan Thompson and Ally Thompson; and his great grandchild Cayson Sowers. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Dove Family Cemetery (1820 Harding Rd, Blacksburg, VA 24060).
